Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I'm going to assume you have read the description to get the idea of what this blog is about, if not then scroll to the top.

I have been thinking about this idea for a long time but never put anything down about it or done any research or designs so now you will find all this gradually appearing on this blog. At the moment, it is just an idea but hopefully with the support of you, the reader and my time and effort, we can make this a reality and a great app.

To start with I will base it all on my hometown and current location, Chester. So let's start with a bit of Chester's history seen as this is an app to take you back in time.

Chester is a city in Cheshire, England that lies on the River Dee, close to the border with Wales and was granted city status in 1541 but it's history goes way back and is even mentioned in the Dooms Day Book! In fact, Chester was founded as a "castrum" or Roman fort with the name Deva Victrix in the year 79 by the Roman Legio II Adiutrix during the reign of the Emperor Vespasian. You will see the name Deva still used around the city today and the is a rumour that it was changed to Chester because the residents didn't like being called Devians. Don't know if this is true but maybe I will find out if it is or not while doing my research.
Chester's four main roads, Eastgate, Northgate, Watergate and Bridge, follow routes laid out during these Roman times – almost 2,000 years ago. Deva – one of the three main Roman army bases – later became a major settlement in the Roman province of Britannia until the Roman Empire fell three hundred years later, and the Romano-British established a number of petty kingdoms in its place.
I think the Romans are probably the most popular part of Chester's history with various tours and museums aimed towards it and being the real start of Chester, I will probably start with ideas based on them and that time. Actually, I think I will save more of Chester's history for another day.
